Caisses populaires acadiennes Contribute $100,000 to TPA’s Major Fund-Raising Campaign

Novembrer 24, 2009

Théâtre populaire d'Acadie (TAP) was the grateful beneficiary recently of a generous $100,000 contribution from Caisses populaires acadiennes under the banner of TPA's first-ever major fund-raising campaign. The good news was announced today in the foyer of the Centre culturel de Caraquet by Mr. Camille Thériault, President and CEO of the Mouvement desCaisses populaires acadiennes.

"Théâtre populaire d'Acadie serves as a glowing beacon of Acadian culture and identity," underlined Mr. Thériault, "and the mission of Caisses populaires acadiennes is directly tied to the promotion and development of the community and local arts milieu. As such, this partnership and contribution come totally naturally.

"The campaign's Co-Presidents, Ms. Lucille Collette and Mr. Jean Lanteigne, were delighted with the generous gesture from one of the Acadian community's most prominent institutions, particularly in light of the prevailing context of economic uncertainty. This commitment constitutes a clear sign of confidence and sends a positive message to other organizations within the province to which TPA is appealing for financial support.

The campaign has gained considerable momentum since its launch, with donor response being extremely encouraging to date. In fact, of all those solicited, there have been a greater than average number of actual contributions. Among those heeding the call have been TPA employees and volunteers themselves, who have already donated close to $60,000 to the internal campaign.

Officially launched this summer under the theme, Expanding Our Magical Encounters, the campaign's objective is to raise $1.5 million over five years, of which $1 million is to be deposited in an endowment fund.1 The members of the campaign cabinet are proud to announce that confirmed contributions now total $556 414. If we include the latest verbal pledges, the total reaches $676 414, representing 45% of the target.

The major province-wide campaign is currently entering its most extensive solicitation phase. The cabinet team has already mobilized numerous volunteers to seek donations from individuals and enterprises in the various regions of the province that TPA plays to.

The success of the campaign will assure the company of the necessary funds to be able to tour the region and toundertake one additional tour each year. Moreover, up and coming talent will be better supported, thereby promoting the cultural development of the young generation. The dissemination of youth theatre will also be enhanced, and young people will have access to educational activities and high quality professional theatre inAcadia and presented in their language.

In addition to running its very first major fund-raising campaign, Théâtre populaire d'Acadie is marking its 35th anniversary this year. A dynamic hub of artistic creation, TPA is the oldest French-language theatre company in New Brunswick and has more than 100 productions to its credit. Not only does it play a vital role in the creation, dissemination and promotion of French professional theatre on a local level, TPA also performs elsewhere in theMaritimes, as well as in the rest of Canada, France and Belgium.
