The Caisses populaires acadiennes acquire a new series of paintings by an Acadian artist

August 20, 2009

The Caisses populaires acadiennes proceeded today to the official unveiling of the "Héritage" Collection, a series of eight paintings recently purchased from the artist Donald McGraw, from Pokemouche.

The paintings of the "Héritage" Collection reflect the fact that our past survives in the present and in our children who are in a sense, the continuation of ourselves, and become our faith in the future.

The backgrounds of the paintings illustrate a historical past that comes to life in symbols that help us remember the Acadian community's heritage and history.

"Each of the collection's eight paintings is a tribute to our youth. Children are on the forefront of each painting, because we trust them, because they are present in our lives, because they are our heirs, our successors and our continuators. Art is an expression of the eternity of everyday life; artists choose the scenes and freeze them in time to immortalize them" says artist Donald McGraw.

Mr. Camille H. Thériault, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mouvement des caisses populaires acadiennes expressed his gratitude to the artist at the unveiling.  "The ‘Héritage' Collection reflects what we were looking for to represent the pride felt across our region because of the 2009 World Acadian Congress. We were moved by the artist's authentic approach and, and the theme conveys the message we wanted to send when it comes to the Acadian community and its rich history, the importance of our children and our pride in our roots. As you have probably noticed, we have used the slogan ‘Chérissez votre héritage' (Cherish your heritage) to emphasize the celebrations of August 15. Mr. McGraw, be assured that we will cherish your paintings", commented Mr. Thériault at the official unveiling, in Caraquet.

The Caisses populaires acadiennes acquired this collection as a permanent display at the Édifice MARTIN-J.-LÉGÈRE, in Caraquet.
