Northern Star – Lighting the way towards better health care in the North East

The Northern Star promotion was launched today in the Chaleur and Acadian Peninsula regions. As of this morning, staff members from the caisses populaires and service centers will be inviting the population to participate in obtaining better health care services in our community! The financial goal of the promotion is $ 50,000; the money raised will be shared by the Chaleur Regional Hospital Foundation, the, the Fondation de l'Hôpital de l'Enfant-Jésus Inc. 1988, the Fondation de l'Hôpital de Lamèque Inc. and the Fondation Les Amis de l'Hôpital de Tracadie Inc. and go towards their respective annual campaigns.
The directors of the Health care establishments presented the projects which are evaluated at $ 561,000. « The details of the projects for each annual campaign involve many sectors but have a common link; to give the staff important tools so they can offer quality health care in our region » confirms Mr. Daniel Paré, General Director of the Chaleur regional Hospital.
« The Caisses populaires acadiennes have always supported local development and the Northern Star promotion is an ideal opportunity to cooperate with the Foundations from the four establishments. We believe that this promotion will allow the Foundations to become closer to the community and will offer the population a chance to participate in its own way to the improvement of health care in our community », according to Mr. Jean-Eudes Duguay, chairman of the Gloucester region of the Caisses populaires .
As last year, mini Christmas trees costing a donation of $ 2, $ 5, $ 10, $ 25 and $ 50 will be offered in all of the Caisses populaires in the Gloucester region as well as at some other businesses. « Once signed, these mini Christmas trees will be hung to demonstrate the populations support of quality health care in our communities », explains Mr. Roland Basque, chairman of the Northern Star promotion for the Fondation Les Amis de l'Hôpital de Tracadie Inc.
Some new ideas were received from the staff members were implemented for this years activity. As such we're introducing a $ 100 Sapphire mini Christmas tree in regions caisses populaire. Also, people will now be able to make their donations through ACCÈS D. This initiative ia to give the opportunity to people who use the internet to do their banking to make a donation without going in to their caisse populaire.
The second part of this promotion is the dedication of Christmas trees that are erected at the entrances of the health care establishments. « People are invited to dedicate a Christmas tree, for a $ 200 donation, in memory of a loved one or to celebrate a victory of a loved one against a disease. On each tree, we will place the name of the person to whom the tree is dedicated from November 30th until the beginning of the New Year. The people dedicating a Christmas tree will also receive a commemorative Christmas ornament in recognition of their generosity», explains Mrs. Marie‑Jeanne Noël, chairwoman of the Northern Star promotion for the Fondation de l'Hôpital de Lamèque.
The Christmas trees from the four establishments will be lit simultaneously on November 30th. « The people who have dedicated trees will be invited to hang a Christmas ball identifying the name of the person or persons to whom the tree has been dedicated », adds Mr. Aldo Mallet, chairman of the Northern Star promotion for the Chaleur Regional Hospital Foundation.
The projects for the Chaleur Regional Hospital will raise funds for the purchase of equipment for the Surgical Suite, Medical Imaging, the Mother and Child program as well as for the fight against cancer. The project for the Fondation de l'Hôpital de l'Enfant-Jésus is to invest in Medical Imaging. As for the project for the Fondation de l'Hôpital de Lamèque, it includes Medical Imaging and Spiritual accompaniment. Finally the project for the Fondation Les Amis de l'Hôpital de Tracadie encompasses many pieces of equipment for the Emergency service.
