Moncton, April 14, 2007 - Yesterday evening, Mr. Jules J. Breau, member of the Office de stabilisation des Caisses populaires acadiennes Board of Directors, received the Acadian Cooperative Order of Merit, 3rd degree, at the Evening of Distinction event held during the Mouvement des caisses populaires acadiennes Annual General Meeting. This is the highest distinction awarded in the Acadian Cooperative sector.
With more than 25 years of work with the Caisses populaires acadiennes network under his belt, his commitment spans an impressive number of events. Mr. Breau became manager of the Caisse populaire of Neguac in 1982, and in 1990, he accepted the position of chairman of the institution and remained as such until the end of his mandate in 1994. In 1995, he accepted a new mandate with the institution until 1998, at which time he became a member of the Office de stabilisation de la Fédération des caisses populaires acadiennes Board of Directors-a position he continues to hold today. His mandate with the Office Board of Directors will come to an end in June.
In addition to his involvement in the cooperative sector, Jules J. Breau has always been a man committed to his community by being highly involved in associated areas. He has worked actively with different community organizations, specifically as a member of the Knights of Columbus at the 3rd degree. He was the president of the Neguac Chamber of Commerce from 1980 to 1982 and, since 1982, has contributed to a number of committees stemming from the Association of New Brunswick Land Surveyors, of which he was the chairman in 1997.
Mr. Breau was also involved in the business world when he founded his own surveying firm in 1980 called Arpentages Jules J. Breau Ltée. This was the first of several small businesses that he founded during his career.
By receiving the Acadian Cooperative Order of Merit, Jules J. Breau confirms his important contribution to the cooperative movement in Acadia. Mr. Breau was born in Neguac in the Acadian Peninsula.
Some previous recipients of the Acadian Cooperative Order of Merit are:
2006: Mr. Ubald Benoît
2005: Mr. Roland Cormier
