Moncton, April 13, 2007 - During the Annual General Meeting to be held in Moncton on Friday and Saturday, the Mouvement des caisses populaires acadiennes will unveil the results of its financial statements for 2006 to its delegates. A number of these results are very positive.
The Mouvement has continued to grow its $123.8 million in assets-a 5.5% increase. This brings Mouvement assets to $2.4 billion at the end of the 2006 fiscal year.
In the wake of the 60th Anniversary of its founding, the Fédération des caisses populaires acadiennes finished its fiscal year with a surplus before dividends, patronage allocations and taxes of $3.5 million, indicating growth of 22%! The Fédération will pay out $2.2 million to its affiliated Caisses in patronage allocations and dividends.
The subsidiaries also continue to shine with results that have exceeded expectations. This is the case with Acadia Life. The profits generated by the Acadia Life insurance company reached a record $5.3 million before patronage allocations and taxes, for an increase of more than 28% compared to 2005 results. $2.6 million will be returned to the Caisses in the network, representing an increase of 7% over last year. Furthermore, an amount of $2 million will be paid to the Caisses in dividends. "We are very pleased with our 2006 results. The outstanding performance of the Acadia Life insurance company is proof of its undeniable experience in the insurance industry, specifically when it comes to the quality of its services to Caisse members," stated Mouvement CEO Mr. Camille Thériault.
An enviable loans portfolio
The loans portfolio has continued to progress on the whole. Residential mortgage loans have increased by 6.6%-an increase of $53.4 million. Corporate and public administration loans have also increased by $47.9 million-an increase of 9.5%. Only consumer and individual loans have decreased slightly by 1.5%, the equivalent to $9.2 million. However, members have also multiplied their savings levels by increasing deposits by $110.5 million, which represents a rate of 5.9% more than in 2005.
"All in all, the Mouvement des caisses populaires acadiennes is making good business sense in a financial world that is constantly changing. Our more than 70 years of experience as a financial institution has allowed us to stand out and be an exemplary success story. We intend to maintain this positioning by always aiming for the highest degree of member satisfaction. This is an integral part of our success," announced Mr. Thériault.
Loyalty to the cooperative commitment and responsibility towards member assets
The Mouvement des caisses populaires acadiennes will give back $7.3 million to its members and the community. The members will share $5.4 million in patronage allocations. More than $1.9 million will have been paid out by the Mouvement in donations, sponsorships and scholarship grants.
The Office de stabilisation is always first in Canada in terms of capitalization with 2.8% of the network's assets. The capitalization of the Mouvement was at $228.1 million, which represents 9.54% of its assets.
"We have a network of accountable Caisses and that's reassuring for members who entrust a financial institution with their money. It still remains that the contribution made by the Caisses populaires acadiennes is still one of the most generous in the communities of this province. With more than $7.3 million redistributed to members, the advantages of the co-operative model allow us to distinguish ourselves with pride from other financial institutions. That is an important difference," added Mr. Thériault during a press conference.
